With six instances in the Atlantic, two were hurricanes, most recently in 2007. Its 2019 version impacted Puerto Rico before turning out to sea.

Karen has also been used as a name nine times in the western Pacific, before being retired in 2016 after becoming a Category 4 that hit the Philippines. The cyclone name additionally made an appearance in the Indian ocean and near Australia.
